The Institute's active scholars represent individuals throughout the world who are presently engaged in writing, teaching or collaborative research in Integral theory with the Institute. These are individuals who use the Integral model as a primary framework for their professional work. Our scholars are pioneers in the application and development of Integral Theory. They have made lasting contributions through publications, projects, and teaching. True to the breadth of the Integral map, these scholars reflect a wide array of academic backgrounds, disciplines, and methodological approaches.

BARRETT C. BROWN contributes to Integral Sustainability studies, which applies Integral Theory to sustainable development issues. He also represents Kosmos Journal and the Integral framework at the United Nations. Barrett is currently a doctoral student in the Human and Organizational Systems program at Fielding Graduate University.

LEO BURKE, M.A., M.S. contributes to Integral Business and Leadership studies at Integral Institute. He is the Associate Dean of the Mendoza College of Business and Director of Executive Education at the University of Notre Dame. Prior to joining Notre Dame, Leo worked twelve years at Motorola, Inc. as a leader and innovator in education.

ALLAN COMBS, Ph.D. is a contributor to the Integral Consciousness Studies at Integral Institute. He is a consciousness researcher, neuropsychologist, and systems theorist. He holds appointments at the Saybrook Graduate School, The California Institute of Integral Studies, the Assisi Conferences, and the Graduate Institute of Connecticut, where he is the director of the Integral Studies program leading to an MA in Conscious Evolution. He is also Professor Emeritus at the University of North Carolina-Asheville.

SUSANNE R. COOK-GREUTER, Ed.D., is an internationally known authority on Mature Adult Development and Developmental Text Analysis. She is a contributor to the Integral Psychology studies at Integral Institute and the Integral Business Practice group. Her Harvard thesis, Postautonomous ego development: Its nature and its measurement, is a landmark empirical study in the characteristics and assessment of Second-Tier meaning making.

JACK CRITTENDEN, Ph.D. has for years been interested in what Voltaire called the two poles of life—government and spirituality. Currently he teaches political theory at Arizona State University and continues with his own spiritual practice and investigations. He is a founding member of Integral Institute.

LAURA DIVINE, M.B.A., M.C.C. is the Co-Founder of Integral Coaching Canada Inc. (Ottawa, Canada), the coaching partner of the Integral Institute and Integral Life. A Masters graduate of Executive Programs from Harvard University and the University of California, Berkeley, she co-developed the Integral Coaching^® application of Integral Theory. She is a Master Certified Coach with the International Coach Federation, is Integral Coaching Canada’s Senior Teacher/Faculty Trainer and also teaches Tai Chi.

JOHN DUPUY, has been doing pioneering work on integral recovery, a new model for the treatment of chemical dependency and alcoholism, using integral theory and the AQAL map.

John began working in the field in of recovery 1984 and has worked with some of the premier wilderness therapy programs in the country. In 2024, John founded Passages to Recovery, an adult wilderness program integrating recovery treatment with wilderness rites of passage. In 2024, John helped to found Open Sky Wilderness Therapy, a holistic wilderness program for adolescents and adults.

John was born in Texas, has lived in Spain, Mexico and Argentina, and is fluent in German and Spanish. He served for three years as a military police investigator in Germany, then later did his graduate work in transpersonal psychology at JFK University in Orinda, CA. John lives in the village of Teasdale in rural southern Utah, with his wife, Pam.

SEAN ESBJÖRN-HARGENS, Ph.D., is an Associate Professor and Program Director of both the Integral Psychology and Integral Theory programs at John F. Kennedy University in Pleasant Hill, California. He is Co-Director of the Integral Ecology Center at Integral Institute and the Executive Editor of Journal of Integral Theory and Practice. Sean is a leading scholar-practitioner in Integral Studies.

VIPASSANA ESBJöRN-HARGENS Ph.D is a clinical psychologist and founder of The Center for Integral Human Being. She is a founding member of Integral Institute and is a pioneer in using the psychograph to support transformative work with clients. She has been a serious meditation practitioner for over 20 years.

LYNNE D. FELDMAN, M.A., J.D., earned her undergraduate degree from Tulane University, her Master's degree in Public Law and Government from Columbia University's Graduate Faculties, and her law degree from Pace Law. She has been a public school teacher for 24 years and an attorney specializing in matrimonial and criminal law for 10 years. She began working with Integral Institute in 2024 and has worked toward the creation of Integral University while organizing the Integral Educational model.

MARK JAMES FISCHLER, J.D. contributed to Integral Law studies and is now a former New Hampshire Public Defender and Guardian Ad Litem who now teaches as a full-time faculty member of the Plymouth State University Criminal Justice Department in Plymouth, NH.

JOHN FORMAN, OblSB, is a Benedictine oblate of Mt. Angel Abbey, a Eucharistic minister and healing minister in the Anglican Communion. John has served on church vestries and in monastic advisory positions, and also as a spiritual and organizational counselor to numerous religious organizations, as well as to individual ordained, professed, and lay men and women. John is also a contributor to Integral Business and Leadership studies and the Managing Partner of Integral Development Associates. For more than 15 years, he has advised organizational leadership and management in areas ranging from culture change and leadership counsel to strategic planning, organizational development, cultural diversity and complex communication issues.

EDITH FRIESEN is a published author, writing coach, and workshop leader. Edith lives with her husband in Winnipeg, Canada. She has a B.Ed. and an M.A. in Communications Studies and is working on several projects around Integral writing.

THOM GEHRING, Ph.D. contributes to Integral Correctional Education Studies at Integral Institute and is a Co-Director of a Correctional Education Association Special Interest Group. He has been a correctional educator since 1972, in New Jersey, Virginia, New York, California, and worked in other systems as a consultant.

LAWRENCE E. GEORGE, M.D., is a Family Medicine physician with High Country Health Care in Dillon, Colorado. He received his medical degree from Mayo Medical School at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN, and is Board Certified in Family Medicine, having completed family practice residency through the University of Utah at McKay-Dee Hospital in Ogden, UT.

THOMAS G. GODDARD, J.D., Ph.D., is Senior Associate on the Organizational Change Team at Booz Allen Hamilton, Inc., one of the world’s largest management consulting firms. He is a founding member of Integral Institute and a contributor to Integral Healthcare studies.

CRAIG HAMILTON is the founder of Integral Enlightenment, an open-source, integral approach to spiritual practice. Through his writings, talks, and teachings, he integrates decades of intensive spiritual practice with insights gleaned during his eight years as Senior Editor of the award-winning What Is Enlightenment? magazine. Craig is a founding member of Integral Institute, a member of the Esalen Center for Theory and Research, and a participant in the Synthesis Dialogues, a 35-person interdisciplinary think tank presided over by His Holiness the Dalai Lama. A pioneer in the art of spiritual dialogue, his celebrated conversations with other luminaries are regularly heard through The Great Integral Awakening podcast series, and by New Dimensions Radio’s seven million listeners. In all of these efforts, Craig is working to articulate an authentic “evolutionary mysticism,” which illuminates the vital relationship between individual post-egoic transformation and collective evolution.

GAIL HOCHACHKA, M.A., is a contributor to Integral International Development studies, where she works to advance the theory and practice of an Integral approach to international development. She is also researching, writing, and building capacity on integral praxis to global wellbeing as Director of the non-profit organization Drishti Centre for Integral Action based in British Columbia. Recently, she joined the core faculty of John F. Kennedy’s School for Holistic Studies to teach in the Integral Psychology Masters Program.

JOANNE HUNT, M.A., M.C.C. is the Co-Founder of Integral Coaching Canada Inc. (Ottawa, Canada), the coaching partner of the Integral Institute and Integral Life. She is a Master Certified Coach with the International Coach Federation and has a Masters Degree in Management Studies. She co-developed the highly respected application of Integral Theory in the field of professional coaching. She is a Senior Teacher who trains, certifies and licenses Integral Coaching^® professionals.

ELLIOTT INGERSOLL, Ph.D., P.C.C. is Professor of counseling at Cleveland State University and chair of the Department of Counseling, Administration, Supervision, and Adult Learning. He is licensed as a psychologist and a Professional Clinical Counselor in the state of Ohio. His books and journal publications focus on psychopharmacology, mental health treatment, and the role of spirituality in counseling and psychotherapy.

REVEREND GREGORY JOHANSON, Ph.D. is Clinical Associate Professor of Marriage and Family Therapy at Central Connecticut State University where he teaches Internal Family Systems Therapy (IFS), and Adjunct Professor of Pastoral Counseling at Drew University. He served as an ordained United Methodist Clergyperson and a Certified Therapist and Founding Trainer of the Hakomi Institute with over 25 years of clinical, teaching, and training experience in mental health clinic, parish, college, and hospital settings.

BETH J. JOWDY is currently an Assistant Professor in the Sport Management Department at Southern New Hampshire University in Manchester, New Hampshire. Her areas of academic concentration include experiential learning, reflection, and Integral Theory with a special interest in grassroots event management.

DAVID KERRIGAN, Ph.D., LCSW, serves as Executive Director of the Center for Spirituality and Integral Social Work at The Catholic University of America in Washington, DC. He works as a clinical social worker at Adoption/Attachment partners in Northern Virginia, a psychotherapy practice specializing in helping children and their families with attachment problems.

JOEL KREISBERG, DC, MA, is the Founder and Executive Director of the Teleosis Institute, an integrally informed institution dedicated to reducing healthcare's footprint while broadening its ecological vision. Joel is currently an adjunct professor at the School of Holistic Studies at John F. Kennedy University and California Institute of Integral Studies Masters in Integrative Health Studies Dr. Kreisberg completed his Doctor of Chiropratic at New York Chiropractic College and he received a Master of Arts degree in Integral Ecology from Prescott College. Author of several books on Homeopathy and he has been teaching and lecturing worldwide for over 20 years. He maintains a private practice in Berkeley, CA.

PAUL LANDRAITIS discovered Ken Wilber's work in 1983 and quickly became an ardent student of the Integral approach. He received his M.A. in Buddhist and Western psychology from Naropa University that same year and now has over 20 years experience applying Integral approaches to helping people resolve relationship problems, overcome mental and emotional disorders, live an authentically happy life, and develop their capacity to contribute to the greater common good. He has wide-ranging professional experience as a psychotherapist, coach, adult educator, consultant, and mental health researcher.

HEATHER LARKIN holds an M.S.W. from Boston University and is currently a doctoral candidate at the National Catholic School of Social Service, The Catholic University of America. Prior to pursuing her doctorate, Ms. Larkin spent seven years as a clinical social worker at Northern New Hampshire Mental Health and Developmental Services and has extensive experience with clinical issues such as severe mental illness, emotionally disturbed children and their families, aging, developmental disability, depression, anxiety disorders, abuse issues, family issues, medical issues, substance abuse, and co-occurring disorders.

RANDY L. MARTIN, Ph.D., is a contributor to Integral Criminology studies at Integral Institute. He has been a Professor in the Department of Criminology at Indiana University of Pennsylvania for the past 18 years, where he has been developing Integral applications for all his courses.

BERT PARLEE Ph.D. is a licensed clinical psychologist with private psychotherapy and personal life coaching practices in Mill Valley, California. Bert currently teaches for the coaching program in the Organizational Psychology department and for the Holistic Counseling program at John F. Kennedy University.

RICHARD H. PFEIFFER, M.Div., Ph.D., is founder/director of Growth Central. He is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (NY & NJ), an Integral Psychotherapist, and a nationally certified Anger Management Specialist-V. He is a Certified Pastoral Psychotherapist, a Fellow of the American Association of Pastoral Counselors (AAPC), and a Distinguished Diplomate of the National Anger Management Association (NAMA).

MARGARET PUFFER, Ph.D. is a contributor to the Integral Correctional Education studies at Integral Institute. With 17 years of experience, Margaret is a teacher in the Alternative and Correctional Schools unit of the Orange County, California Department of Education.

JOHN RECORDS received his J.D. from New York University School of Law and has been Executive Director of the Committee on the Shelterless (COTS) since 1992.

JOHN SCHMIDT, M.B.A., is CEO of Avastone Consulting, a professional services firm that supports Fortune 500 companies in movement toward realization of organizational vitality, resilience, and sustainability. He is the impetus behind Avastone’s practical application of leading-edge leadership theory and the creative force behind Avastone’s innovative work in executive and organization development. John’s consulting career spans thirty years and includes work with a distinguished base of global organizations. Prior to forming Avastone, John spent eight years with BearingPoint (formerly KPMG). John has both master’s and bachelor’s degrees in business administration.

SIMON A. SENZON, M.A., D.C. is a Chiropractor, certified in Network Spinal Analysis. Simon lives in Asheville, North Carolina, with his wife and daughter and is an adjunct faculty member at UNCA. His latest book is called The Secret History of Chiropractic.

BARON SHORT, M.D., has studied Integral Theory and its application to medicine and psychiatry since 2024. He is in his fifth year of residency training in internal medicine and psychiatry at the Medical University of South Carolina. Dr. Short is a primary investigator in a pilot study, "Functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging and Meditation." He hopes to better understand the neurophysiology involved in the meditative experience, as such knowledge could influence future clinical treatments and our ideas about the philosophy and spirituality of mind. In addition to his clinical rotations, academic presentations, and research, he is an avid teacher of medical students and new residents. He hopes to collaborate and offer one of the first Integral Medicine courses accessible at a medical university.

KIRSTY K. SPENCE, Ph.D. is currently an Assistant Professor in the Department of Sport Management at Brock University in St. Catharines, Ontario, Canada. She has authored and co-authored publications featuring the Integral approach in the European Sport Management Quarterly and the International Journal of Sport Management and Marketing.

RICHARD B. WAGNER, JD, CFP, has been a pioneer, visionary, and a leader in the financial planning profession for over twenty-two years. Past president of the Institute of Certified Financial Planners, founder of the Nazrudin Project, a leaderless but successful financial planning think tank, winner of FPA’s prestigious P. Kemp, Jr. Award in 2024, and successful practitioner, Dick has written seminal works of financial planning theory and aspiration.

ROGER WALSH, M.D., Ph.D., is Professor of Psychiatry, Anthropology, and Philosophy and Adjunct Professor of Religious Studies at the University of California, Irvine. His publications include Essential Spirituality: The Seven Central Practices, Paths Beyond Ego: The Transpersonal Vision, and Higher Wisdom: Eminent Elders Explore the Continuing Impact of Psychedelics.

KEN WILBER, at age 56, is the first thinker and writer to have his collected works published while still alive. With 25 books translated into some 30 foreign languages, he is the most widely translated academic writer in the United States. Ken is the internationally acknowledged originator of Integral Theory and founder of Integral Institute.

GREGORY WILPERT, Ph.D. contributes to Integral Politics studies at Integral Institute. He is a German-American sociologist who studied sociology at University of California San Diego (B.A. in 1988) and at Brandeis University (Ph.D. in 1993). He lives in Caracas, Venezuela, where he had a Fulbright grant to teach and conduct research (2000-2001) on an integral-critical theory of social development.

ELIZABETH ANN WILSON, Ph.D., studies political theory with emphasis on both feminist theory and environmental political theory. Annie currently teaches at California State University, Dominguez Hills.

DAVID M. ZEITLER, M.A., serves as Associate Director for the Integral Psychotherapy Center at Integral Institute, an Associate Editor for Journal of Integral Theory and Practice, and has been involved with the development, production, and trainings at the Integral Psychotherapy Professional Seminar series. He is an Adjunct Professor at Naropa University and Assistant Professor in the Integral Psychology program at John F. Kennedy University.

MICHAEL ZIMMERMAN, Ph.D. is a contributor of the Integral Ecology studies at Integral Institute and Chair of the Department of Philosophy at the University of Colorado - Boulder. He is a Professor of Philosophy, Co-Director of Environmental Studies, and Co-Director of Asian Studies, as well as Clinical Professor of Psychology in the Department of Psychiatry at Tulane Medical School.
