    Favorites

Is there anyone who is using the section of his/her profile where you pick "favorites"? I never seem to have any at all in common with anyone, and I'm wondering if it's a software glitch or that most people haven't found that bit of functionality yet.

Just about everyone's on my favorite list, btw, so it's not that I'm all that picky! What's not to love about you guys?

    Re: Favorites

    Hey Liz --

Maybe a lot of people haven't discovered this feature yet -- but I also noticed that there's an extra box that you have to check to actually publicly share your "favorites" -- that is, have them appear to others who check out your profile. So, people can have "favorites" without them appearing publicly in their profile. This "secrecy" also prevents people from finding out if they are on anyone's favorites list -- if it's not explicitly "shared" by the person, no one will know.

I've decided to start sharing some favorite posts and threads, but somehow I don't feel right listing "favorite" people -- I start to get this junior-high-schoolish feeling  ("Jenny's a favorite but Bobby's not,") and wondering if people will feel hurt if they're not included as a favorite. And then, if the list of "favorites" gets really long (as mine would because y'all are generally lovable), it kind of defeats the purpose of having a favorites list anyway -- other than to give people points.

    Anyway, that's my weirdness,

    (Puyallup!Smile [:)])

    Re: Favorites

Yes, I know what you mean Mary, I also turned off sharing favourite people but allowed sharing for posts and forums.

I don't chose people who I like personally though; I chose people whose posts I like to read.  Sometimes I really enjoy peoples' posts who I don't like as people, if you know what I mean, and vice versa.

But I havn't figured out what the feature really does.  Do we get a big flashing message when one of our favourite people posts something new?  If not, and it's secret, I don't see what the point is.

But confusions aside, I really like the forum.  Thanks, IN-staff-type guys!

    Re: Favorites

Huh. I just thought of it like "friends" on Zaadz. No big deal. I have been pretty much adding people as they come over to the forum. Alas, it didn't occur to me about the junior high thang.

I know what you mean about posts vs. people, Gavin. Y'know, because you're smart and all, but I don't like you very much.Stick out tongue [:P] Seriously, thanks for pointing out the obvious to me. D'oh! I guess I'll have to do the less lazy thing and choose posts I like and not just the people.

    Liz

Oh, BTW, Gavin, just added you as a favorite. Now you know my dark secret. Your points will go up by 100 every time someone adds you.

But . . . . does that mean that if someone decides to delete a favorite poster -- ohmigod that sounds ominous --I mean, to take them off of their list of favorites, their points go down by 100 points?

That might cause some consternation . . . oh noooooo, Mr. Bill ......!

    Huh? [:^)]Tongue Tied [:S]

    Re: Favorites

I tried using the favorites option. It would only let me add myself! Talk about enabling narcissim!

This is a very interesting point Infinitas. Do you think that there is a lot of projection in this forum? How can you really know anyone fully here? Yes, the theme of the forum is to be "naked", but are we really? The internet is the perfect place to be fully transparent, or to hide behind your shadow and let hell break lose, and everything in between for that matter.

Please forgive me for being blunt, but how can you really know anyone here unless you met them personally and get to know them. To see their body language, feel their vibe, see the light in their eyes shine? I recently met one forum member for the first time. It was a great time and I picked up on some very high stuff that never would have leaked through the screen on my computer.

I have gotten to know some folks through personal messaging. I guess its like being a pen pal before computers were commonplace. In that case, it is easier to get to know one another persoanlly behind the scenes of Integral Naked. But nothing has the impact of actually meeting someone as some of you I am sure will confirm from the 2 Integral Naked gatherings that occured. And I get the impression that those meetings really cement friendships and deeper unions of consciousness that were before not possible behind the computer screen.

You are right, we do present some elements of our personality in our posts, but is this just a stage act, presenting those parts of ourselves that we wish to the world to see? If you are a good actor, you can play many parts and never show who you really are to others. Even easier when you are behind the keyboard. Of course, a normal person would want to always put their best foot forward even when communicating on the keyboard.

The only thing that really turned me off was when I posted a photo of my kids ages ago at Intergral Naked #1 on our first photo thread and had some shady commentary resulting. I removed the pic and will never again post a photo of my children. Even PI didn't bother me that much, he would have gotten tired of his disruptive behavior and would have left on his own accord (eventually).

I haven't placed myself on Zaadz yet. I'm a little overwhelmed with forum, blog oversaturation. I feel spead out too thin, like butter on toast (to quote Bilbo Baggins).

But who are my favorites? Well if this were an Integral college class and we all were writing a thesis then I guess some of us would be getting A's, B's, C's, etc. The quaility of cognitive skills here do have a ranking order (remember the grades at IN #1).

I get a kick out of everyone here, thats my 2 cents.

    Dan

    Re: Favorites

I only have a few people on my favorites list so far; they are people whose posts I particularly like to read.  My assumption initially was that there would be an easy way to list new posts by people on my favorites list, but that doesn't seem to be the case.  However, I could easily get to new posts by Maryw, for example, by going into my favorites list, clicking on her name, and then asking for a list of recent posts.  Hopefully at some point there will be more functionality around the favorites list.

It could also, at least in theory, be used as a social networking tool as with Zaadz.  And of course, if you think someone is a valuable contributor to the forum and you add them to your favorites, they will have more points.

I would like to have a way to click one button and get a list of my favorites - it would make it easier to send PM's.  (And, as an aside, I would really like to have a number in brackets next to my inbox telling me how many new PM's I have.)

Any reactions that arise are good for working with shadow stuff, so it's useful that way as well. I certainly have reactions in terms of others having more points than I do, attachment to how high my own score is, etc. - it's amusing.  Smile [:)]

Hey Arthur, You make me laugh about your attachment to points.  Do you think we could arrange a system where we could trade or give points away?  I find them perplexing and annoying (Like whaddayamean that post was good for 5 and that other one was good for 20! Like who is up there in the points department, God herself)Big Smile [:D]. I would love to give mine to you, really!  I will even add you to my favourite list right now to help you get some extras! Jane PS anyone else wanting to get the 100 favourite poster points, let me know, I will put you on my list.

Thus we begin to subvert the points system once again! You guys are great.

It would suck if the points ever go down. (Arthur, you're not allowed to comment on that sentence at ALLZip it! [:#])

There is a system to it. If you post, it's 5 points, 20 if someone answers it, so an active thread you started will get you lots of points. I think the rating sytem has some effect as well, but I don't know what it is. People don't seem to be using it much on this forum yet.

Any system that gives me more points than someone like Arthur, who does a lot more for the forum than I ever have, is pretty silly. You can have mine, too, baby!Paradise [ip]

Well, mine somehow went down by 20 points overnight. Another lesson in detachment pour moi!

    See, now, that's just WRONG.

And please, Corey, no points off for puns. Arthur wouldn't have any left. Wait, maybe I need to rethink this. It might be sufficient motivation for him to actually stop with the puns...

Nah! I love him, puns and all.

    Re: Favorites

I think I figured it out, Liz: looks like some redundant and/or extraneous threads were deleted from the ISC forums -- basic housekeeping. Maybe when a thread gets deleted, any points that people picked up in those threads are deleted also...

I'm just so ready to take things personally, lol!
