    Re: what's with the advertising?

Ya know, I wrote a reply to a thread about what I called some "soft sell" emails I-I sent out about some rich give giving a ton of money. I liked the soft sell aspect of it--thought it was tasteful, fresh, appropriate for my idea of what I-I should be (and yes, I'm acknowledging that my idea is not anything but my own little story in my own little head). Now these ads. Gotta add my voice to the "thumbs down" crowd on this one. Don't like the banner ads one bit. They're tacky.

And what's with the new guy, Steve Frazee? I tried to do a Google search on his name, and I found some Hollywood screen writer and an author by that name, but I couldn't tell if it's the same guy. I think there would have been some better introduction of the new CEO to the community. And if these ads are a reflection of his leadership, I hate to say it, but he's off to a bad start.
There are two types of conversations worth having; those about the deepest things, and gossip!

    Hey, did ya see?

The Integral Voice of Dissent has been heard.

The box messages have been toned down. No more exclamation points, smaller print, little less "noisy," no "commands" to buy or sign up. Also, no longer at the bottom of every thread page!

    A wondrous miracle!Surprise [:O]

God, you are real! You are listening to us! Big Smile [:D] You speak to us in signs! Amen, Amen, Amen.Party!!! [<:o)]

(Now, can you send me a million dollars and a smoothie?Smile [:)])

    Re: what's with the advertising?

Personally I found the advertising rather distasteful, for several reasons:
    1. I already know about the products advertised
    2. I'm paying for this
    3. The design is bad

To compensate for 1 and 2, I second Tim's suggestion to make the advertising optional for members. Alternatively limiting it to the first page might be an option but that's not really optimal since random visitors might not see the ads (which I assume is their purpose).

As for point 3... C'mon, blue, purple and red? And a tacky table border? Blending in has been the trend in web ads for quite a while (Google ads anyone?) so I hope the I-I will follow suite.

So some more tweaking needed. Still, props to the crew for listening to the opinions on the board and reacting so quickly. Smile [:)]

Yeah, well, . . . perhaps these aesthetics are still at the preoperational stage . . . (Ken and Barney will emerge soon.) We have to assume it will be a while before turquoise emerges . . .

    Stick out tongue [:P]

    Re: what's with the advertising?

Okay, I don’t know why I am so into this, but what the heck.

Following dreamingone, here would be my suggestions, since it seems we're open to them:

1.) The box needs to blend in with rest of the forum, as well slightly stand out. It’s already the first thing you see on the page but move to the left-far left, upper-right hand corner and left justify the listings as well. (Hey, it’s like the Quads, put it in the UL)

2.) All of the different forum sections have their own Title Bar (Integral Naked Forums, Integral Institute Forums, etc.) so do the same. A thick bar (perhaps with its own unique font but that still blends in) with a title, like

     iLive and Upcoming

    or

    Integral Live Events

    or

    Integral Live

Just suggestions. But something which explains what’s in the box, as well as what I am in for if I “go for it” -which is all good stuff and I-I should be proud of and proud to offer and "advertise" openly.

3.) Right now it seems there are three, I’ll call them “modules.”

iWet is an ongoing program who’s dates and locations change. Aesthetically, give iWet some kind of "fixed," stable, recognizable "logo." That alway stayes the same but the current date and location change as time goes on. You do want us to notice the changes, so feel free to have this part change color with each change. (ex. Florida is orange. When it changes to the next one, a new color, etc.)

Follow the same with ILP Kit (which will alwasy stay the same?) and the other Unique Offerings.

But I think the main point is an ongoing, in-blended but noticable "notice box" rather than an "ad." So then no worry about "optional advertising" or whatever and everybody's happy.

My stupid two cents . . .Smile [:)]

This is exactly what I meant. Thank you for putting it in clearer words than I could.

(and thank you I-I for listening to the forum)

    Re: what's with the advertising?

I couldn’t tell you the last 12 things that Billy Mays has hawked on TV.  He’s the reason God put a mute button on the remote, and gave us small bladders.

In case we haven’t exported this fine bit of U.S. culture to those of you overseas yet, he’s a guy who advertises various things on television by YELLING!!!!  If we have exported him then you have this citizen’s sincerest apologies.

I don’t think II is anywhere near that yet, but a lot of people have a fear of being inundated.  Let’s call in Mays Syndrome.  I want II to grow, and it takes money to grow.  That’s a fine line that I hope II will walk gracefully.  I’m glad to see the response to the previous posts.  Thank you all for looking out for us.

If you’ll all send $9.95 in U.S. dollars we’ll start a fund to combat our newly named Mays Syndrome.  Give me a few days to open the offshore bank account.

    Welcome Mark.

    Re: what's with the advertising?

Membership in my fund will only cost $7.94 (a savings of over $2.00!) and for AB-SO-LUTE-LY FREE! I will include this new lifesized Billy Mays dart board -quality crafted and hand made. Yours for FREE! if you SING UP NOW! But wait - that's not all. If you act in the next 57.862 seconds . . . free hand bag . . .

What do you think second-tier advertisting is?

Allowing something to grow of its own accord? Perhaps giving it a nudge here and there (which is how I see this thingy here) but moer than anything else fostering a sincere, natural organic growth?

    'snot what we're used to.

Timelody, you are a hoot!  Can’t believe I missed the hand-bag opportunity.

I agree that if advertising were tasteful and allowed to evolve gradually it could branch out to a new sector of integral advertising agency.

    A hoot yourself, I think.

I once heard a rumor that Elvis used to shoot his TV set.

So, if you copy-cat my handbag idea, I guess I am going to raise the bar and offer a free (for only an additional $9.99) authenitc replica Elvis TV shooting handgun. Now, you too can be The King . . .

a first! soo saw one tv add, yesterday pm...mother showing off to young teen daughter their new appilences...after each 'introduction, punctuated by "only uses half the water", and so on, mother injects "wicked", or ....  (or something! mimicking  hip-kool-teen-speak) , after which daughter has the last word -  "you freak me out!" Big Smile [:D]

    Re: what's with the advertising?

I am a bit tired but it suddenly caught my eye, the new letters unfolding across the screen. "a polyamourous relationship"...('oh what's this? hacked? what's next ---the penis enlargement thingy is going to be here too.' all went through my mind a  blinding flash) "with yourself" (what and now masturbation too!, who has done this?) "at the Iwet weekend"---(oh, oh, I see, more integral advertising)...."do you want to start"....(oh phewww, I might be spared the viagra followup) "a polyamorous relationship..with yourself at the Iwet weekend in ....."

New integral roll out advertising....  I remember when power point came out, and for a couple of weeks all of these deadly bad presentations by dead boring people were so neatly spun out, I felt a bit confused as if I was missing something.

Now the favourite presentation of mine, a save the world one, is on some dog earred homemade posters made from bristol board.....sometimes I feel inspired and paint a new panel..... sometimes words are tiring....or maybe it is just me in need of a snooze.......
