Best books on zen & buddhism?

The title pretty much sums it up. What are the best books on zen buddhism and/or buddhism in general in your opinion? I'm about to order some and would appreciate any good advice.

    Cheers,

    JP.

PS. Has anyone been reading Thomas Cleary's Classics of Buddhism of Zen - series?

Could you say more specifically about what you are looking for?  There's a whole lot out there...

For general introductory Zen material, I really like

    Zen Commandments (Dean Sluyter)

    and anything by Cheri Huber

Both are not heavy and dense, but have real depth conveyed with ease and grace.

    Regards,

    Actually...

I have often thought that the perfect book on Zen would be a large volume of blank pages.Wink [;)]

    Thank you for your responses,

I was looking for some orthodox zen books, classics, and that sort of stuff. I know zen, in my own humble way, but would like to know about zen as well. What I was after were like the top five of zen books to take on a desert island kind of thing.

    Cheers,

    JP.
