Bill Torbert is the author of many books, including “Action Inquiry: The Secret of Timely and Transforming Leadership,” published in 2004 in collaboration with others. This interview, conducted in 2002, is, in part, an exploration of the events and circumstances in Bill’s professional life that helped shape the Action-Inquiry model. The interview is integrally-informed, focusing mostly on the UL and LL quadrants, and more geared to an intermediate audience that is familiar with the model. The interview touches on other topics, such as single/double/triple loop learning, Kegan’s notion of subject/object, and the relationship between action logic and vMemes in Spiral Dynamics.
